Living More Safely in the Chaparral-Urban Interface

USDA Forest Service, Pacific Southwest Forest and Range Experiment Station (Klaus W. H. Radtke). This registry entry connects 22 plant records to 22 normalized source rows. It is corroboration or adoption evidence; it does not cast an independent fire vote. Evidence kind: compilation; lineage: la-arboretum-tree.

Table 5 assigns 20 low-growing landscape entries a fire-retardance class based on fuel volume, inherent plant flammability, and ease of fire spread. High and generally high map to recommend; medium, medium to high, and low to medium map to mixed; low maps to avoid. The collective ice-plants row explicitly names Carpobrotus, Delosperma, and Drosanthemum, so it produces three genus-level rows. The 2004 revision republishes a nine-entry subset without changing these classes.

The report says its table is a general guide for southern California rather than a substitute for site advice. Its ratings are kept in the existing la-arboretum-tree because Radtke cites that plant-selection lineage and acts as a popularizer rather than a new independent taxon trial. Modern taxon queries correct obvious historical spellings only where the report supplies an unambiguous scientific identity; verbatim table labels remain in verdictRaw.
