Montana adopts the 2021 IWUIC with its own edits — Chapter 4 deleted, the Section 602 sprinkler provisions deleted — and then leaves enforcement as a local election for cities, counties, and towns that run the building codes. What applies in Montana
Montana’s Department of Labor and Industry adopts the 2021 IWUIC with amendments. Chapter 4 is deleted. Automatic sprinklers in Section 602 are deleted. Cities, counties, and towns that enforce IBC or IRC may elect to enforce the IWUIC and must then record WUI areas on public maps. That election is not a statewide construction mandate. Confirm with the building official.
