Western Woods' OSFM WUI listing 8140-2084:0004 covers horizontal rabbeted-bevel siding with conditions on the boards and backing.
In the September 2025 handbook, listing 8140-2084:0004 covers horizontal Rabbeted Bevel using boards at least nominal 6 inches wide and nominal 1 inch thick. These are nominal sizes governed by DOC PS 20. The listed backing options are structural plywood and OSB; either must meet the 7/16-inch minimum and comply with PS1 or PS2.
Redwood is named, along with four cedars: Alaska Yellow Cedar, Incense Cedar, Port Orford Cedar and Western Red Cedar. For a species outside that group, the listing requires an ASTM E84 flame-spread rating of 75 or less, Class B. That alternative does not remove the board-size or installation conditions. The siding must be free of through holes and loose knots; edge- and end-glued members may substitute for solid-sawn siding.
For attachment, the handbook's recommended practice calls for one nail at each wood-frame support crossing for nominal 6-inch siding, and two for nominal 8-inch or wider siding. Joints attach to studs or blocking. The butt-joint arrangement combines a minimum 12-inch stagger with flush ends and no gap.
The useful comparison is a complete horizontal bevel assembly, including backing and attachment. OSFM refers installers to the industrial technical guide, manufacturer instructions and product data sheets. Those referrals accompany these dated handbook conditions; check the current GOVmotus listing before specification.
