Wyoming WUI code status

Last verified 2026-08-26.

This page is Wyoming law.

Wyoming does not have a statewide IWUIC construction book. Council on Fire Prevention Chapter 1, effective 26 June 2024, incorporates the 2024 International Building Code, International Existing Building Code, International Fire Code with named appendices, International Mechanical Code, and International Fuel Gas Code. IWUIC is not on that list.

You are looking at a lot in Wyoming and asking which book binds a new roof. The statewide path is ordinary IBC or IFC construction unless a county adopted a WUI overlay. This site does not invent that overlay.

Why it matters

Embers still reach a sagebrush eave. A missing statewide WUI book means you cannot spec “Wyoming IWUIC Class A” as a state minimum. You can spec a local ordinance if one exists, or an insurer checklist such as IBHS Wildfire Prepared. See the hardening ladder.

How it works

Chapter 1 Section 2(a) incorporates those ICC titles by reference. Section 2(a)(vi) pulls in IRC, IPMC, IPC, and IECC only as they are referenced in chapters 1 through 10 of the IBC, IFC, IMC, and IFGC. IWUIC is not named. Local authorities can still adopt IWUIC. Unincorporated Teton County and the Town of Jackson have separate 2024 applications: the Town took effect 1 January 2025 across its corporate boundary; the County took effect 1 February 2025 only on unincorporated lands.

The paths

  1. Statewide IBC / IFC. Spec that book unless a local WUI overlay applies.
  2. Local IWUIC. Spec the ordinance the building official names.
  3. Harden anyway. IBHS is a designation, not adopted code.

What people mix up

  • Treating a wildfire season as a statewide IWUIC mandate.
  • Treating either local 2024 IWUIC application as a statewide Wyoming book, or collapsing the Town and County into one effective date.
  • Importing Oregon R327 or California CWUIC onto a Wyoming drawing.

How to check

  1. Ask the building official which edition of IBC and IFC applies, and whether any local overlay names IWUIC.
  2. Read Chapter 1 Section 2. If IWUIC is still absent, there is no statewide WUI construction book.
  3. This site does not read your parcel.

Limits

This page does not decide a permit. It quotes Teton County’s 2024 IWUIC overlay as one opened example. It does not classify a parcel.

Questions

Does Wyoming require IWUIC construction on my lot today?

Not as a statewide book. Council on Fire Prevention Chapter 1 incorporates the 2024 IBC, IEBC, IFC, IMC, and IFGC. IWUIC is not on that list. Confirm with the building official.

Does this site read my parcel?

No. There is no statewide WUI construction map to link. A county overlay may still exist. Ask the building official.
