2025 California WUI Code roof-profile closure details
The 2025 California Wildland-Urban Interface Code calls for bird stops at fitting eaves and mudded hip and ridge caps where a roof profile creates an airspace over a combustible deck.
A closure component addresses only the edge or cap detail. The roof deck, underlayment, covering, ventilation, and installation remain separate checks.

“Bird stops shall be used at the eaves where the profile fits, to prevent the entry of debris at the eave. Hip and ridge caps shall be mudded in to prevent intrusion of fire or embers.”
