What examiners redline on R327 drawings
Plans examiners redline what is missing from the sheet, not a hallway conversation. Where Oregon R327 is adopted, Deschutes County will accept OSFM handbook products only when the model is listed on the drawings and noted where it installs. Presenters at the 25 June 2026 Central Oregon seminar named the same misses in public. Ordinary bird-block mesh under 12 feet. Type X covered before the firewall inspection. You are at intake. The cover sheet says “ember-resistant vents” and “Type X as required.” There is no model, no listing ID, and no hold point for the gypsum. That packet comes back.
No g3-passed exhibit exists for a comment letter. Read the county page and the seminar claims that are on the readable slides.
Why it matters
The building official stamps drawings. During a wildfire, embers enter the opening you built. If the sheet is vague, the field installs last year’s catalog number, or covers the gypsum, or meshes the dryer.
Show the product on the drawings is the drawing rule. This page is the miss list from public sources.

The paths
1. Put the product on the sheet. Manufacturer, model, listing program, location. OSFM listing is still voluntary for most WUI products. Absence from the handbook is not an automatic ban. Presence is not a permit.
2. Name the eave strategy. Bird-block swap, boxed soffit, or unvented. Do not leave hardware-store screen in a tail under 12 feet.
3. Hold Type X in the open. If Exception 1 is the wall or soffit path, the seminar’s firewall inspection is a hold point. Event testimony is not a BCD ruling. Confirm with the official.
4. Do not write the 30-inch to 12-foot band onto underfloor. That band is walking surfaces (R327.3.5). Stairs to elevated decks are a BCD exemption in the county FAQ. See the stairs finding.
5. Alternate method is a written approval, not a redline fix. See R104.11.
What people mix up
- Treating a brand on the cover as a listing.
- Inventing a plan-submittal checklist from the seminar’s empty divider slide.
- Quoting a private email as the official’s redline.
- Covering Type X and hoping final catches it.
- Writing “per code” on an eave that still has a bird block.
How to check
- Confirm R327 is adopted for the lot.
- Walk every vent, soffit, wall path, deck, and dryer on the drawings. Find a model or a mesh size, not a slogan.
- If Type X is the path, find the inspection hold point.
- If the packet uses a handbook product, match the live GOVmotus record to the sheet.
- Do not paste a Discovery West exhibit or a private comment into the public set.
Limits
This page does not stamp your drawing. It does not reprint an examiner’s comment letter. FireApproved is not the AHJ. Seminar slides are event testimony. R327, where adopted, is a new-construction code.

Is this the seminar plan-submittal slide?
The 25 June 2026 seminar had a Plan Submittal Requirements divider slide with no checklist on that slide. This page uses the seminar claims that are on the readable slides, plus the county’s public R327 page. It is not a scrape of a private comment letter.
If the brand is on the cover sheet, is the redline gone?
No. Deschutes County wants handbook products listed on the drawings and noted where they install. A brand is not a model. See show the product on the drawings.
Can I cover Type X and call at final?
Presenters said a firewall inspection is required when the 5/8 inch Type X method is the chosen path. Schedule it after the gypsum and screws are in, before the finish covering. Event testimony is not a BCD ruling.
Does Trex fail R327?
Presenters said Trex does not meet the testing requirements. That is event testimony about walking surfaces, not a ban list. Match the model to R327.3.5 and the official. See the Trex finding.
