Birch sap is named as water-like. Highly flammable examples include juniper, Mugo pine, and ornamental spruce. Conifers should be more than 15 feet from structures. Thin black spruce in clusters less than 10 feet in diameter with 15 feet between clusters. Beyond 30 feet, a healthy forest of both birch and spruce can be maintained with pruning.
